The US Chamber of Commerce is again thanking Senator Blanche Lincoln for opposing the Employee Free Choice Act before it even comes up for a vote. The following half-page ad ran in Wednesday’s edition of the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette.
The ad’s headline boasts “90% of Arkansans AGREE with Senator Lincoln,” and quotes an article from The Hill about Lincoln’s apparent concerns about the legislation, as well as numbers from a summer poll commissioned by the Chamber showing apparent opposition to how the Chamber described the Employee Free Choice Act. Finally, the Chamber’s ad encourages Arkansans to “thank Senator Blanche Lincoln for standing firm against ‘compromises’ on the Employee Free Choice Act.”
The Chamber ran a similar ad in July in which it also urged readers to thank Lincoln for her opposition to the bill. At the time, TPM noted that Arkansas GOPers were frustrated by the ad, calling it “first-class butt kissing.”

Aww, isn’t that sweet. The Chamber is giving Blanche a good by kiss….
See ya Blanche. Don’t let the Senate doors hit you in the ass on your way out.
GAH!! Everytime I see heinous Lincoln’s ugly mug shot on one of these posts I get nauseated, and then I read the post and really feel sick. I’m starting to hate the sight of her ugly mug almost more than anyone else’s these days. Gad, is there no level to which this corporate shill will not sink (rhetorical question)???? BAH
Gee, Goopers complaining about a “first class butt kissing?”
Well, they should surely know all about that after the Bush years.
yep, there are certain issues upon which one must concede repub greater experience and overall superiority.
butt kissing?
check.
hey, gotta give him credit for saying it to the us chamber of commerce
If the Democratic Party wants to continue to have progressives/liberals/leftists voting for its candidates its going to have to make up its mind. It can either have Chamber of Commerce officials like Lincoln and all the rest, or it can have us.
Blanche will be home for Christmas this year….for good.
Poor poor Plantation Blanche.. nearly 7 millions bucks in her campaign coffers and yet the Chamber feels compelled to do this for her.
Someone ought to check her farmhouse and make sure she doesn’t keep slaves in the basement.
Isn’t even Wallmart laying off people now? I wonder if Blanche’s retirement is really that secure? Shopping chains rise and fall they don’t stay on top forever.
They are called WallMart Employees these days.
If 90% of Arkansas agrees with her then why is she tanking at the polls? Is this Karl’s Math again?
They are called the bottom 85 percent of us too.
%^&*!! I hope she eats at Sam’s Club!
I can think of no worse culinary hell.
Where is Bill Halter? Why isn’t he challenging her? We need someone from the Democratic wing of the Democratic party to speak up for the people of Arkansas — open their eyes to the rip-off GOPs they’ve been voting for.
Good question any Arkansas pups around to answer and provide local background information?
The Chamber, AR farm Bureau, Wal Mart and the D party headed by Senator Mark Pryors father, former senator himself.. probably are doing everything humanly possible/ circling the wagons, to keep folks from running against her in the D primary.
The old boy network would much rather let a yes-man republican win than a person interested in remotely good governance.
And I have been asking around about Halter.. few know much about him, but those who seem to know are not at all comfortable with his “progressive” credentials, fwiw.
The criminals are still in charge!
Good question!
The establishment Democrats seem determined to a) stand behind losing incumbents, b) blatantly put up weak democratic candidates against supposed RINO’s that a neolib/con DLC democrat would be proud of [Scott/Kirk], or c) just plain invite republicans on the other side to come over and join them [Webb/Specter]!
The corpocrats and ME warmongers on both sides of the aisle seem to be doing quite good job stacking the Senate and House with their kind.
Meanwhile, it doesn’t give us much of choice.
.
True but maybe the economy will take out Wallmart a sudden swing in fuel prices could hurt their Chinese imports price advantage. That or another mercury cat food scandal might result in a temporary ban on Chinese products.
It would have to be something really major… this country has so little consumer protection… if any.
OT, but you reminded me about another story of how this country doesn’t look out for it citizens…

I love shrimp… I love going to trader joes getting some of the ‘organic’ veggies and ready-made stuff from Mexico and Thailand etc… but this story totally put me off.
And another thing — why is the likes of TPM and others giving so much free publicity to Harold Ford? If Harold Ford is so out there, then why not devote just as time on Jonathan Tasini?
I dunno. It looks to me like they air-brushed Blanche’s pic.
OT – tonight I saw the following bumper sticker on a car that also had an Obama one:
Sounds like buyer’s remorse.
I think that Wal-Mart actually calls their employees “associates,” a term that connotes to me a desire to (eventually) deny the employees’ rights to health care and minimum wage and OSHA protections.
On the broader subject of Blanche Lincoln, there was some wishful thinking a week or two ago that she was going to announce that she was going to abandon her re-election campaign.
But, this anti-EFCA activity and her recent announcement that she is listening to her constituents about military commissions for terrorists (while not listening to her constituents about the public option, for example) clearly indicate that she has decided to run for re-election full-bore.
In Canada, several Walmarts have had to accept unionization.Of course in such legislation, as well as in health care, Canada leads the US by 99 miles in a 100 mile race.
As opposed to the koolaid drinking of the Obambi cultists?
EFCA = Dead; as it should be…
‘free choice’ – what a crock!
Pickin’ up scraps while trollin’ I see.
I really like the banter here. We need EFCA more than ever because of the supreme courts ‘citizens united’ ruling. That being said, I would advise a few words of caution. I find it sad that while Democratic and Republican citizens continue to blame and fight each other, the corporate and financial elite laugh all the way to the bank with ours and our children’s money, not to mention their very future. What must be realized (and very soon) is that the corporate and financial lobbyists threw huge amounts of money at the republicans (for the most part) while they were in power……….and now they are throwing huge amounts of money at the democrats (for the most part) while they are in power. We think that by getting rid of the ‘bad’ politicians we will win. Throw out one politician, they buy two more. Throw out five, they buy ten. We will continue to unknowingly sabotage our own efforts………until we all dismiss the ‘perceived’ enemy and recognize the real enemy. Don’t get me wrong, Blanche Lincoln must go! But if you are only blaming and fighting Democrats or Republicans…..you may want to rethink that strategy. Throw out the politician on the take, but keep going and expose the root of our problem. But afaik Walmart has *chosen* to close those stores.
