This is rich. In a new radio ad cut for Senator Blanche Lincoln in her bitter primary battle to save her Senate seat, Barack Obama casts Lincoln as a “popular crusader,” in the words of Sam Stein. Obama claims Lincoln “took on big insurance companies” in health care, and that “Blanche is leading the fight to hold Wall Street accountable.”
But in a laughable aside, Obama claims that Blanche Lincoln “stands on the side of workers,” as evidenced by her votes to extent unemployment and COBRA insurance. Listen:
Thankfully, Obama doesn’t repeat the fallacy promoted by Lincoln that she saved the jobs of Cooper Tire employers, when she actually contributed to the threats to their jobs. But to claim Lincoln is “on the side of workers” because she doesn’t cut off their unemployment insurance is hardly a gold standard for supporting workers. Indeed, every organization of workers in the state would disagree.

The democrats are “a big tent.” I’m never surprised by anything done to keep that tent expanding. I’m sure alot of FDL’ers feel that tent is getting dangerously close to the city dump:)
I don’t understand why anyone would expect Obama to suffer a sudden fit of uncharacteristic truth-telling, especially when it comes to a corporatist like Blanche Lincoln. He should go ahead and say she’s a Fierce Advocate of EFCA.
But that “big tent” only seems to be expanding to the right.
