Work in Progress is a blog about work, unions, and the labor movement written by Michael Whitney. This blog covers the issues that people face at work and the politics involved in those issues. We’ll look at the goings-on of unions, labor legislation, and organizing drives, and discuss their impact on working people.
Michael Whitney is a progressive online organizer with experience in labor institutions, including the Service Employees International Union and the labor rights nonprofit American Rights at Work. While at both organizations, Michael managed the online campaigns for the Employee Free Choice Act.
An activist and organizer at his core, Michael grew up thinking the “End Construction” signs on highways were protest signs erected by citizens fed up with construction delays. Michael got his start in online politics as the co-founder of Generation Dean, the youth organizing arm of Howard Dean’s presidential campaign. Rush Limbaugh called Michael “clueless” on the air in 2003. Rush went into rehab two days later.
In addition to writing at Work in Progress, Michael directs the online campaigns for Firedoglake and FDL Action.
