It’s particularly disappointing because if there was ever a time to push through a nominee, fight back against the Republican opposition, and make the case for why working people need a voice at work, it was in the aftermath of TSA needing a leader after an attempted terrorist attack. Instead, the White House had Southers withdrawn as the nominee, validating DeMint’s grandstanding against working people.

Erroll Southers, Obama’s nominee to run the Transportation Security Administration has withdrawn his name because he has become a “lightning rod for those with a political agenda.” Read: Jim DeMint doesn’t like unions, so I’m going to just run and hide. This is ludicrous.

Sen. Jim DeMint (R-SC) says the attempted bombing of Northwest Flight 253 is really the fault of TSA union employees, and justifies his hold on the TSA director nominee as such. Seriously.
